Ankur Garg
Country Director, BBC Media Action
Ankur Garg serves on the global leadership team of Evidence Action as Executive Vice President and Country Director, overseeing the organization’s impactful programs including Deworm the World, Equal Vitamin Access, and Safe Water Now across India.
He has a track record of successfully scaling strategic initiatives on climate action and global health in partnership with the government, civil society, media, and private sector companies. Ankur’s expertise lies at the cusp of social and behaviour change, partnerships, and climate change and its intersectional themes including gender, energy, food, and water.
He’s worked with several organisations including UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) where he supported India’s first policy on solar rooftops and net metering solutions, launched India’s first carbon index on the Bombay Stock Exchange, and developed a range of measures to increase energy and fuel efficiency through policy and behavioural science interventions.
Previously, Ankur served as Country Director leading strategy, partnerships, and programs for the India and Indonesia country offices of BBC Media Action, the BBC’s international development charity.
In an earlier role as Head of WASH Program, he provided technical assistance to the flagship Swachh Bharat Mission, the world’s largest behaviour change movement providing access to safe sanitation for over 500 million people across India. Early in his career, Ankur worked with UK FCDO to manage multiple programs supporting large-scale clean energy transition and climate-smart policies across South Asia. He holds a Master’s degree in Technology Policy from the University of Cambridge where he was a Chevening Scholar.
