The world is in urgent need of climate stories. Science has painted the picture in facts, but we need artists at the helm of this movement. We envision a future where musicians, performers, filmmakers, and writers to move us toward collective action.

About

Picture the Change is designed to help creative artists learn the art and science of climate storytelling.

The program includes live sessions with a cohort of artists from around the world, lectures with leading climate experts, and the opportunity to develop and showcase new work.

Instructors

Schedule

  • Three weeks of live sessions, including live lectures, workshops and guest talks.

    The four modules will be:

    1. The Basics: Introduction to climate science, history and cultural context

    2. Climate Communication

    3. Climate Storytelling

    4. Skills Building

  • Two assignments, and an optional third.

    Assignments will be rolled out on day one and the outcome can be presented at the showcase event end of the program. Participating in the showcase is optional.

    You can sign up for one-on-one coaching sessions with instructors and facilitators.

  • A closed door exclusive virtual event to showcase your climate themed art to an informed audience of experts, artists, curators, and gallerists.

    This is also when you will receive your completion certificates.

Fee & Commitment

  • The full fee for the ClimArts Fellowship is $225 or £175.

    The fellowship + three additional coaching sessions for your specific project after the fellowship, is $350 or £300.

    Need-based scholarships and payment plans are available.

  • We’re supporting 25% of our course participants with some form of need-based scholarship.

    ClimArts is committed to ensuring that financial standing is not a barrier for accepted applicants.

  • We recommend allotting at least 6 hours a week for the core experience during the three weeks of the program. For your assignment, plan for an additional 1 to 3 hours a week.

    All program sessions are delivered online.

  • The flagship fellowship program is be offered yearly.

  • This program is designed for visual and performance artists, but is open to creatives from all disciplines.

  • Financial assistance is available on a needs basis. We aim to support about 25% of our cohort.

  • We do not offer refunds at this time. Prior to applying and accepting your place in the cohort, we ask that you carefully read the program description and consider whether the course suits your needs.

  • Yes!

    The fellowship offers opportunities to:

    - Connect with like-minded artists and climate experts.

    - Present your work at a virtual showcase event at the end of the program attended by your cohort, climate experts, and curators.

    - Join the ClimArts Slack community for ongoing networking beyond the Program.

    - Selected artists from the fellowship will be offered the opportunity to collaborate with climate experts to create a ClimArts story.

  • Completion certificates are granted if you attend core sessions and complete at least one assignment.

    Sessions will be recorded and can be made available if you miss any.

    We highly recommend that you attend all sessions to gain the most from this experience and complete all the assignments to prepare for the showcase at the end. Some flexibility on assignment deadlines may be available depending on specific circumstances. Our team is available to support you throughout the program - please get in touch.

  • Yes! Sessions are recorded and can be made available.

  • We plan on one or more cohorts each year. Please check our website and Slack community channels for information on upcoming cohorts. You are welcome to get on our waitlist to ensure your application gets prioritised for a future cohort.

  • All participants who meet the minimum requirements (see above query on attendance) will receive a certificate at a virtual showcase event at the conclusion of the program.
